Style of Painting

Hoeyyn's work elegantly combines her love in Chinese calligraphy with a mastery of various Western painting techniques. Her artistic journey is characterised by a profound dedication to exploring and understanding multiple mediums.

Hoeyyn reflects on her process, stating, "I dedicated much of my time to learning and studying each medium—ranging from pencil and charcoal to oil pastel, colored pencil, gouache, acrylic, watercolor, Chinese ink, and oil painting. I sought to appreciate the unique beauty of each medium, and at one point, I considered choosing a single medium to define my style. However, I discovered that I excelled in all these techniques, each offering a distinct way to convey my message. Ultimately, I chose to embrace mixed media, utilising the techniques that best align with the message I wish to express."

In her artistic practice, Hoeyyn describes her work as encompassing three worlds: the day, the night, and the fun bits. "The day represents my love for color," she explains. "Growing up in a tropical land, vibrant colors are in my blood. I believe each color possesses energetic strength, stimulating us and our surroundings, reaching out to the audience. The night, however, reveals my appreciation for black, which symbolizes the unknown and limitless possibilities. This aspect of my work allows me to approach painting from a different perspective. Lastly, the fun bits often manifest in my animal portraits, where the liveliness of the animals brings me joy as I capture their expressions."

Through her innovative use of mixed media and her exploration of color and form, Hoeyyn Ngu creates captivating artworks that resonate deeply with viewers, inviting them into her vibrant and multifaceted artistic world.
